Meet Rachel
“People who say they sleep like a baby usually don’t have one!”
As a Mum of two children, I have experienced my share of exhausting days and sleepless nights. There is always an expectation of broken sleep in the early months with a new baby; however, the reality of a baby or child who isn’t sleeping can be truly overwhelming. My first child, Liliana was generally a great sleeper, however, after the arrival of our youngest child, Harley, the term “sleep-deprived” took on a whole new meaning for us and introduced me to the world of sleep science.
Having a child who suffered with sleep issues means I now fully understand how complex and challenging a parent’s role is, particularly when it comes to sleep and functioning off very little! I can really empathise with families where sleep is a struggle.
Before Harley arrived, I believed I was well prepared for a baby and the lack of sleep that comes with a newborn’s arrival. We had already raised one happy, healthy, sleeping child, so number two would be a breeze! Harley, however, was a completely different baby in every way. With a baby who found sleep challenging, I found the concept of sleep science fascinating. I found myself extensively reading about infant sleep and sleep science thus leading me to The Sleepy Lambs program and becoming a Certified Sleepy Lambs Sleep Consultant®.
Having previously worked in an infant school environment for the past 7 years, I have a great understanding of how a lack of sleep for a child can negatively affect a child’s learning. Sleep is so vital for us to function at our best whatever age we are.
Working with families to help them improve the quality of their child’s sleep and subsequently helping the parents feel better rested too has become a passion of mine. At Sleepy Lambs, we follow a holistic approach to improving sleep with a strong focus on emotional wellness and sleep science. We will work together to find what is best for you as a family and tailor the support for your child’s individual needs.
