Hang Out With Female Entrepreneurs!
What a day! It started at 4 am, which is WAY too early to wake up, but I was excited about the day ahead.
Emilie Heaney from The Startup Marketeer joined me on the 3-hour drive to Cheltenham. We chatted the entire way, making the long drive pass in no time as the sun rose across the frost-kissed countryside of Hampshire, Berkshire, Wiltshire, and Gloucestershire.
It was my first visit to the beautiful spa town, and the Women’s Business Conference was held at the historic and gorgeous Pittville Pump Room.

Inspiring & Relevant Topics
After a quick look around and a much-needed cup of tea, we headed to listen to the first speaker of the day, Phillippa Haynes of Insight101. It was standing-room-only as the captive audience listened to Phillippa’s talk on how to own your unique space in business. I took many notes as she talked about the role of vision in your business story.
We were in for a treat with the next speaker, Bev Hepting, from The Message Maestro, not to be missed with her trademark fuschia-coloured hair. Bev’s talk on taking your public speaking to the next level. Her contagious enthusiasm made public speaking feel as easy as drinking a hot cup of tea on an icy-cold day. We learned as she kept the audience laughing. What could be better than that?
The room was overflowing, and every notebook was out as Leon Streete gave an engaging talk on getting more leads and clients. His straightforward approach inspired everyone in the room to return to their offices and start making a difference immediately.
After a quick lunch, Women’s Business Club founder and event organiser Angela De Souza gave a captivating keynote speech on developing the millionaire mindset and how one word can change everything.
Jo Fairley, one of the UK’s leading female entrepreneurs and chocoholic, best known as the founder of Green & Black’s Chocolate, a £100 million/year brand and “officially more cool than Prada,” delivered an inspiring speech about the start-up of Green & Black’s Chocolate and left every woman in the room believing that she could make her dreams come true, too.
The Awards!
The awards ceremony recognised some outstanding businesses across the UK. Sleepy Lambs Sleep Consulting was incredibly honoured to be a finalist for the Franchise of the Year award, sponsored by The International Franchise Show London.
Up against some outstanding and well-established competition for the grand prize, such as The HR Dept, Action Coach, People Puzzles, Travel Counsellors, and Minuteman Press, it was hard not to be intimidated as we only grew into a franchise last year! So imagine my shock and excitement as Jo Fairley announced Sleepy Lambs as runner-up! The grand prize went to Travel Counsellors. To be considered in the same group as Travel Counsellors, established in 1987 with 1900 franchisees worldwide, was a genuine honour.
Our 3-hour drive home felt just as fast as our early morning journey. Our brains swirled with ideas after a great day. I’ve come away from the day with more inspiration, energy and exciting plans as we move into 2020.
Life as an entrepreneur can be up and down at times, but the day at the Women’s Business Conference was great. Thanks to the organisers, the Women’s Business Club, and Angela De Souza for a great event.
