If you’ve read my blogs before, you’ll know that I’m all about the bedtime routine! A predictable routine before sleep (both day and night) can help your little one wind down and know that it’s time for sleep.
Is It Good To Have A Bath As Part Of The Routine?
The answer to this is, only if you want to! As long as your bedtime routine has the same steps in the same order, what you include is entirely up to you. There are no should-haves for the bedtime routine – include whatever you find relaxing and soothing for your baby.
Often a bath does just this – it can be a lovely, relaxing experience for both you and your little one and is often a great start off to your routine before you go into their room for stories, songs etc.
However, bathtime can be hugely exciting and overstimulating for some little ones, which is not what we’re aiming for just before sleep! If this is the case in your house, don’t be worried about moving bath time to a different time in the day – often, a good splash in the bath on a cranky afternoon can work wonders to lift everyone’s mood.
Stick With What Works For You!
Your bedtime routine should always be based on what works for you and your little one, the same as everything around sleep should be! Find what works well for your family, and don’t worry about what others are doing.
The bedtime routine is a lovely way to slow down and connect with your little one at the end of the day so make sure that you give yourself enough time to relax and enjoy it, whatever the steps you put in.
